The Hague Convention③ of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction① (Hague Conference on Private International Law, Convention #28) establishes a multilateral civil mechanism for the prompt return② of children wrongfully removed to or retained in a Contracting State, and for securing respect for rights of custody and access across borders. Each Contracting State designates a Central Authority to discharge cooperation duties, locate the child, and facilitate voluntary or judicially ordered return. The Republic of Korea acceded on 13 December 2012, with the Convention entering into force for Korea on 1 March 2013.
